EP05 EN — Inflammation Is Not the Enemy – A Clinical Framework for Understanding Inflammation in Rehabilitation

Inflammation is not the enemy. The problem is treating it as if it were.
In this episode, we explore a clinical framework for understanding inflammation in musculoskeletal rehabilitation.

In clinical practice, inflammation is still too often framed as something that should be shut down as early as possible. But that view is too blunt. In rehabilitation, the real task is not automatic suppression — it is understanding what the tissue is trying to do, which phase it is in, and how to match intervention to the actual biology of the case.

In this episode of the BTB Rehab Podcast, we explore a more useful clinical perspective on inflammation. Rather than treating symptoms as the whole story, we discuss how to think in terms of protective inflammation, active resolution, remodeling, non-resolving states, and how these distinctions can shape better rehabilitation decisions.

If you work in musculoskeletal rehabilitation, this episode was designed to help you make better decisions about when to protect, when to progress, when to recalibrate load, and when to stop treating a persistent case as if it were a fresh acute injury.

In this episode

  • Acute protective inflammation
  • Active resolution
  • Remodeling
  • Non-resolving states
  • Dosing by irritability
  • Symptom relief vs. tissue guidance
