A Knowledge Translation Framework for Optimizing Physical Therapy in Patients With Heart Failure.

(2021) “This resource provides the physical therapist with practical guidance in the management of patients with heart failure by placing research findings in the context of other knowledge and practice norms that can be applied at the point of care and across the continuum of care. We propose a novel ABCDE (assessment, behavior modification, cardiorespiratory fitness, dosage, and education) practical framework. This clinical paradigm is grounded in ongoing physical therapist assessment throughout the episode of care, along with behavior modification, assessment of cardiorespiratory fitness, appropriate selection and dosing of interventions, and patient education. Examples highlighting the use of this model in patients with heart failure across the continuum of care are provided for application in clinical care.”

Experiences of Physical Therapists and Professional Leaders with Implementing a Toolkit to Advance Walking Assessment Poststroke: A Realist Evaluation.

(2021) “Findings underscore contextual factors and activities essential to eliciting change in assessment practice in stroke rehabilitation across care settings.

Impact

This study shows that to foster recommended walking assessment practices, an onsite facilitator should be present to enable learning sessions and toolkit use.”

Identifying clinicians’ priorities for the implementation of best practices in cognitive rehabilitation post-acquired brain injury

(2021) The Technique for Research of Information by Animation of a Group of Experts (TRIAGE) can be used to support clinicians’ decision-making regarding the identification of implementation priorities in cognitive rehabilitation post-ABI.

The combination of individual consultations followed by consensual in-person group discussions, as part of the TRIAGE process, may help clinicians in defining and operationalizing best practices into more specific intervention components to implement.
